Floor Care

care for your floors

Now that you have the perfect flooring, here are some tips to keep it looking great for years!

Wood Floor Maintenance

At Proper maintenance of your wood flooring is essential to keep them looking great and performing well for the lifetime of the floor. Maintenance not only enhances the performance of the floor but will also prolong the lifetime of the floor and ultimately protect your investment.

Routine cleaning to remove dust and dirt involves sweeping, dust mopping, or vacuuming (using the bare floor setting). Make sure to always clean spills right after they happen with a dry or slightly damp cloth. Don’t use wet mops or steam mops- they will damage your floors over long periods of time.

When cleaning your floors it is best to use a cleaner made specifically for the finish on the floor, this is something we can provide or recommend.

Over time, your wood floors can start to look a little dull, this can be fixed through recoating. The recoating process involves applying a new coat of wood floor finish.

Moisture Maintenance

Due to being an organic material, wood reacts to the environment around it. If the surrounding environment is humid, wood will gain moisture and swell. In a dry environment, wood will lose moisture and shrink. Changes in your wood floors and the way they perform will occur if the environment changes drastically. If your floors happen to gain moisture, they can cup and if they lose moisture, they can gap or split. These issues can be minimized by keeping the environment between 60-80 degrees Fahrenheit, and between 30-50 percent humidity throughout the year.
